Evacuated People

So far we have only identified one person who was evacuated from Elham, that was Vernon Blackford, although with time we might hear of more evacuees. We have conatcted Vernon's family and it appears he went to South Wales, where he had an enjoyable time. After the war he and the family revisited the area many times.

We can find no official record of people being evacuated to Elham, although we believe some children from Canterbury were sent here for a short while.

The 1939 Register shows that these 4 ladies from Alms Houses in Rochester had been evacuated to 24, High Street, Elham. Which we feel is probably "The Old House".
